Destination Wedding Photographer

Following are some of my favorite images for the beautiful Bauer-Lee nuptials that took place back in March in Aspen, Colorado.  It was a spectacularly good time, and a huge blessing to be a part of.
Here is the daughter of the Groom, Sloan, trying on the Bride's wedding gown.  Someday this will be priceless.

Bride, Nicole, and Groom, Frank, ready for the fun to start.

We walked over to the St. Regis, across the street from the wedding site.
It is a veritable cornucopia of beautiful backdrops to shoot in front of.

This is a pretty spot...Let's get some shots this way...oh, over here too.  Oh wait, it's just awesome everywhere you look!

My favorite thing about the happy couple is just that...they are happy.  No faking.  No "say cheese."  It's just lovely to capture happiness.

Back in front of the Mountain Chalet,  (http://www.mountainchaletaspen.com)
A perfectly quaint ski lodge.  It was not the best time of day for outdoor wedding photography, but who could resist shooting with a blue sky and mountains in the background?  We were gifted the most gorgeous day.

Ring Barer & Flower Girl Love.

I love to catch jumping pictures.  They are just funny.  It takes several shots to get a good one.  Hard to coordinate that many people, in formals, jumping at the same time.  It's a work out.  1, 2, 3, JUMP!  1, 2, 3, JUMP!  1, 2, 3, JUMP!

The Mountain Chalet is walking distance to the Aspen ski lifts.  We had several skiers walking right into our photos.  It was kind of comical.  This nice gentleman was one of the only people who actually stopped to let us continue shooting pictures.  I asked him to go on ahead, and took the shot of him in the picture anyway, to capture what shooting at this location really entailed.  Nice guy.  Thanks for pausing.

"Because I'm Happy!"

Happy couple just post "I do's" and a spirited dance down the isle.

Hut one, Hut two...

Nothing to say.  I just like this one.

A nice dinner downstairs, before going back up to the ball room for the reception.  Up and down the stairs in high altitude is no joke for a Texan.  Not the first time I've been grateful for being in good shape while I was on a shoot.  I have often found I don't think I could keep up otherwise.  How do people get used to a lack of oxygen?  I suppose like Texans get accustomed to the heat in the summer.

Coolest shot glass contraption I've ever seen!  The shot glasses are shaped like ski boots, and they actually clip into bindings on the ski.  For the shot that says "ready or not, we're all in this together!"

I loved the bubble exit.  It worked splendidly indoors.  No wind to blow them all away!  Felt like a bubble machine unlike any other Bubble exit I've ever gotten to witness.

Now, I've shot a lot of weddings, and here is something that doesn't happen every day!  Upon exit, Frank and Nicole decide to run downstairs and jump into the pool!  It was very spontaneous, and I felt dreadfully unprepared.  Fast action and no light is a logistical nightmare for a photographer.  Sadly, I was ill prepared and missed the actual splash.  I may kick myself a little for that moment for a long time to come.  I love and commend the spontaneity, but in hind site, we might have communicated a second longer on exactly where they were going to jump in.  I suppose some moments are only for memories, and not to be captured.

There was also a point were the Bride's dress was over her head for so long that I was concerned for  her safety and wondering if she was going to get air fast enough.  You can imagine my relief when she was discovered under all that fabric, all smiles!

What a crazy-fun unforgettable event.  A big part of me wanted to just jump in too.

Of course the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen must join in.  ...at least the spontaneous ones!

And this marks my first group wedding portrait in a swimming pool.  Likely the last too, which is too bad.  It made for a fantastic ending to an already ridiculously fun party.  More people should consider such a grand finale.

And they lived...

...Happily Ever After!

Thank you for the honor of flying to Aspen to capture a beautiful, unique love story.

Destination Photography

What would you consider icing on a fantastic weekend at the Winter X Games?  An Engagement Photo Session on top of a mountain with two beautiful people…inside and out!  Congratulations to Frank Bauer and Nicole Lee on their upcoming nuptials in Aspen Colorado!  I can't wait to be back for the wedding.  Aspen is a charming town, full of fun loving adventurous people.

First a shot from a beautiful sled day with Frank's daughter, Sloan.

This quick capture of the sunset was taken on the patio of the VIP tent that overlooks the Winter X Games.  By the looks of it, the sun is not the only thing melting the snow!

We ventured up to the top of the mountain that overlooks all of the town of Aspen, and has a perfect view of the mountain range.  Absolutely breathtaking up there, and we got lucky with some unseasonably fantastic weather in January.

The outstanding DJ, Tiesto (tiesto.com) was down in the town playing a show for the X Games.  He was tearing it up, and the music was echoing off of the mountains.  It truly felt like we were having our own little private party up there on top of the mountain.  Spectacular, for sure!

These two are so adorable it is hard to pic favorite images.  Beautiful couple inside and out, and you can definitely feel the Love.

Below is a good example of me being indecisive.  Sometimes I want to catch a moment in every light possible.  I want to see the mountain, but I want to see the couple, but I want to see the blue sky, but I want to catch a silhouette…oh hell, let's just make it all happen!  That's the beauty of knowing how to make your camera work for you, quick fast in a hurry!

See?  "Can you feel the Love tonight?"

This last image brings to mind The Princess Bride for some reason.
As You Wish.

Looking ever so forward to being back in Aspen at the end of the month for the big event.
We will be shooting at The Mountain Chalet, and I feel honored and blessed to get to play a part in it.  It is a real joy to capture some of the happiest moments in peoples lives.  Stay tuned for images from the Wedding coming soon.

How to keep your bridal gown clean during bridal portraits.

I had the pleasure of shooting bridal portraits for a brilliant bride this Memorial Day weekend.  She had an ingenious way to keep your bridal gown clean during bridal portraits.  Take an old sheet that you are okay with trashing.  Cut a hole in the middle and step into it.  Wrap your dress up in the sheet.  Voila!  Now we can walk all over God's green Earth, and not worry about getting your bridal gown dirty before the wedding.  Priceless.  Check out the results:

Why Destination Photography?

So, you've decided to say your "I do's" someplace spectacular.  Here are some compelling reasons why you should take a photographer, and turn your trip into an "Expedition!"
jenXpeditions is Making Moments Legendary.

  • Your wedding album is a story book, and you should tell the whole story:

When you contract an on site photographer, not only are they unknown to you, but they are contracted for a very small window of your excursion.  Taking a photographer with you means you have a professional in your entourage to capture the details of the adventure.   Your brunch and your rehearsal are critical portions of the story that needs telling, and there's no better way to tell a story than when you are a part of it.

You've put your heart, soul, and personality in the details...let's capture them.

  • It's easier and less expensive than you think... and it's your Legacy:
It's as easy as adding a room and a plane ticket to your entourage.  What is a "plus one," when you are talking about creating heirlooms for your children and grandchildren.  Your legacy wont know what the food tasted like, but you can guarantee that they will want to put their hands on the photographs.

Your wedding photographs are your most prized heirlooms.

  • You do not want your memories to stay in your iPhone:
When you hire a professional to come along, you are relieved of the responsibility of worrying about what to do with your images.  If you are like 95% of us, you will likely leave your precious memories to gather cyber dust in your phone, your computer, or your camera.  Let a professional be burdened with bringing your story to life in a tangible way.  Let's face it, shuffling through images is not your priority, but a professional has been paid for it to be theirs.

Just hanging out is worthy of preserving.

  • You want an artist to capture your once in a lifetime event:
Someone with a creative eye, and an education in light and composition, can make every day moments feel newsworthy.  Weather you are walking through the hotel, sitting in the airport, on a bus, or sitting down for a bite to eat, it is so very important to capture these fleeting moments.  The actual ceremony is only a part of the story when you are talking destination.  Be aware not to trivialize the rest of the journey.
Even the bus ride is a first rate memory.

I relish the opportunity to preserve people's happiest moments for many lifetimes.  Don't neglect crucial pieces in the puzzle.  Allow jenXpeditions to make your moments legendary!

Dallas Wedding Photographer

jenX had the honor of shooting the Bowling vow renewal last weekend.  Jeff and Daniella celebrated their 10 year anniversary by saying their "I do's" again.  I love to shoot weddings, and there is something even better about renewing vows.  Somehow the words are more meaningful 10 years into a marraige.
The ceremony was held on top of a building off of McKinney Avenue in Dallas, so the skyline was the backdrop.  It was absolutely breathtaking!  I love the images of their kids.  They could pursue a career in modeling, were they so inclined.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the blessed event.
